The role

What is a Foreman?

Foremen are professionals who work at warehouses and construction sites.

They ensure productivity and efficiency on the site, oversee daily operations, and serve as a link between construction workers and supervisors.

They are also responsible for scheduling, establishing project deadlines, monitoring progress, and determining hiring needs.

Foremen ensure that all workers adhere to safety and health protocols and regulations and perform quality control checks.

What to screen for

The top Foreman skills.

Five things separate a strong hire from a résumé that reads well. Use these as your scorecard criteria.

SkillWhy it matters
SafetyForemen have to be familiar with all local and state safety protocols and laws. They are responsible for ensuring safety on the construction site, which makes this skill essential. They must also make sure that construction workers wear safety equipment and adhere to other rules and protocols.
CommunicationForemen are leaders in some way, and they are required to have amazing communication skills. They are the first element of contact between workers and managers, and they must transfer information, instructions, and demands correctly and precisely. Furthermore, Foremen liaise and interact with supervisors, managers, and clients.
Organization and Time ManagementThe ability to stay organized and manage time effectively is a fundamental skill for Foremen. These professionals often have to monitor and coordinate several projects at the same time, and keeping track of every detail of their job is immensely important. Organization also helps them manage the staff and documentation.
Problem-SolvingConstruction areas are suitable for various issues, problems, or hazardous situations to happen. Because of the nature of their job, Foremen should be constantly aware of their surroundings and prevent potentially dangerous outcomes or administrative mistakes. However, if a mistake happens, after all, Foremen must provide a quick and effective solution.
Construction KnowledgeForemen can’t be successful and competent if they don’t possess a strong general knowledge of the construction industry. They must understand everything their job entails. This includes equipment knowledge, reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints, the number of individuals needed for a particular project, and many more.
