ZipRecruiter pricing 2026: what employers actually pay

ZipRecruiter doesn't publish prices. Here's what its three plans are estimated to cost, how job slots and renewals change your bill, and what to ask before you sign.

ZipRecruiter doesn't publish a price list. Its plans page shows three plans, Standard, Premium, and Pro, with no dollar amounts. You only see a price after you start a free trial or talk to sales.

Third-party pricing guides put Standard at roughly $299 to $399 a month, Premium at $419 to $519, and Pro at $719 to $899. Treat those as estimates. ZipRecruiter hasn't confirmed them, and several guides appear to draw on the same few sources.

  • What you'll actually pay depends on your plan, how many jobs you run at once, any add-ons, and how long you keep the subscription.

This guide separates what ZipRecruiter confirms from what's estimated, so you can budget before you commit.

If you're comparing job board costs, it's worth knowing there's another route. A hiring platform like AvaHR sends your jobs to 100+ job boards at once and keeps every applicant in one place, so you're not paying a separate subscription for each board.

ZipRecruiter plans and estimated prices

ZipRecruiter offers three plans. Standard and Premium start with a free trial, and Pro requires contacting sales.

Plan Built for, per ZipRecruiter Estimated price per month What it adds
Standard Hiring on a budget $299 to $399 Dashboard, distribution to 100+ job boards, AI matching that invites candidates to apply
Premium Hard-to-fill positions $419 to $519 Everything in Standard, plus sponsored job placement and access to its resume database
Pro Maximum reach and visibility $719 to $899 Everything in Premium, plus TrafficBoost for urgent roles and integrations with applicant tracking systems

Price estimates come from third-party guides published between March and September 2026. Most describe them as per job slot, per month. Ranges vary by source: some list Premium from $375 and Pro up to $999.

A few costs aren't public at all:

  • Extra job slots. No published price per slot.
  • Add-ons. TrafficBoost and extra resume database access have no published price.
  • Annual billing. ZipRecruiter's billing help pages mention monthly and annual options, but no published annual discount.

How job slots affect what you pay

Your plan covers a set number of job slots, meaning the number of jobs you can run at the same time. ZipRecruiter doesn't charge per applicant, and it says there's no limit on how many you receive.

Slots are reusable. If you fill a role early, ZipRecruiter says you can close it and put a new role in the same slot right away, without waiting out a 30-day posting.

Here's what that means for your budget:

  • One role at a time. One slot may be enough. Fill the role, then reuse the slot for the next one.
  • Several roles at once. You'll need more slots, which raises the price. ZipRecruiter doesn't publish what an extra slot costs.
  • Don't multiply the estimates. Some guides calculate multi-slot totals by multiplying a single-slot price. No verified quote shows pricing works that way, so ask for a quote for your actual number of roles.
  • Multiple locations. ZipRecruiter doesn't say whether the same role in two locations takes one slot or two. Ask before you sign.

Once you're signed up, your slots, plan, and renewal date appear under Subscription > Overview in your account.

What ZipRecruiter could cost you in a year

How often you hire changes your yearly cost far more than which plan you pick. Here's the Standard plan under three common hiring patterns.

Hiring pattern Months paid Estimated yearly cost
Steady: one role open every month, slot reused as you hire 12 $3,588 to $4,788
Occasional: two hires a year, cancelled right after each 2 $598 to $798
Occasional, with a missed cancellation: same two hires, but the plan ran two extra months 4 $1,196 to $1,596

These use the third-party estimate of $299 to $399 a month for one Standard slot, billed monthly. They leave out add-ons and any annual discount, so your quote may differ.

The last row is the one to watch. Those two extra months add $598 to $798 for no hires at all, and there's no refund for unused time.

Is there a free version of ZipRecruiter?

No. ZipRecruiter has no ongoing free plan for employers. Its "post your first job free" offer is a short free trial that turns into a paid subscription.

Here's what ZipRecruiter's help center confirms as of August 2026:

  • The trial is short. Current help-center guidance describes a two-day trial. Some third-party guides say two to four days, so check the terms shown when you sign up.
  • A credit card is required to start the trial.
  • It converts to a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends.
  • Cancelling ends access immediately. Your jobs come down, and you lose access to the dashboard and candidates. ZipRecruiter says your saved information returns if you later reactivate on a paid plan.
  • No candidate limit applies during the trial.

Two days goes fast, especially if hiring is one of ten things on your plate. Have your job description written before you sign up, and set a reminder for the cancellation deadline.

Renewal, billing, and cancellation

ZipRecruiter subscriptions renew automatically, and cancelling a monthly plan takes a phone call. If you hire in bursts, these terms can matter as much as the monthly price.

From ZipRecruiter's help center, updated July and August 2026:

  • Automatic renewal. All subscriptions renew at the end of each billing term.
  • Billed in advance. Monthly plans are charged at the start of each billing period.
  • No prorated refunds. Cancel mid-month and you keep access until the period ends, but you don't get money back for unused days.
  • Cancel by phone. To turn off auto-renewal on a monthly plan, ZipRecruiter says to call customer support at 855-813-0288. It confirmed this call-to-cancel policy in a public response to a customer review in September 2026.
  • Closing a job isn't cancelling. Closing your last open job doesn't end the subscription. You still need to turn off auto-renewal.

Two things aren't published: any notice period required before cancelling, and the full terms for leaving an annual plan early. Ask about both before you sign.

We hear this often from employers who come to us. The head of a small private college told us price wasn't his issue with ZipRecruiter. He was fine paying. What he didn't want was one more subscription he'd forget to cancel while running everything else. For a busy owner, the real cost isn't the monthly fee. It's paying through the months you aren't hiring.

  • The practical takeaway: a subscription keeps charging between hires unless you turn it off.

Is ZipRecruiter more expensive than Indeed?

It depends on how often you hire. The two charge in different ways, so the cheaper option changes with your hiring pattern.

Question ZipRecruiter Indeed
How you pay Monthly subscription, based on plan and job slots Free posts, plus pay for results when you sponsor a job
Free option Short trial only Up to 3 free jobs a month posted directly on Indeed, each live up to 30 days, if the job qualifies
What triggers a charge The subscription itself, whether or not applicants arrive Clicks or started applications on sponsored jobs
Published prices None for its plans Explains how sponsorship is billed; minimum budgets vary by job and location
Stopping costs Turn off auto-renewal by phone Pause or close a sponsored job; remaining activity can still bill up to your budget

ZipRecruiter's cost is predictable but fixed. You pay the same whether a role draws 50 applicants or two.

Indeed's cost moves with activity, so you can start small, but spend depends on how sponsored jobs perform. Indeed can also charge for a started application, even if the candidate never finishes it.

A rough rule:

  • You hire steadily, with a few roles open most months. A fixed subscription is easier to budget.
  • You hire a few times a year. Paying only when you sponsor a job usually wastes less money between hires.

Neither model guarantees qualified applicants. For a fuller side-by-side, see our Indeed vs ZipRecruiter comparison. If LinkedIn is also on your list, here's what LinkedIn job posts cost and how ZipRecruiter compares with LinkedIn.

What employers report about ZipRecruiter costs

Employer reviews point to three recurring themes. These are individual experiences, not proof of how often problems happen, but they show what to check before you sign up.

  • Cost versus results. One employer wrote in August 2026 that a $549 charge "received 2 candidates, which for $549.00 was not going to work."
  • Renewal after cancelling. A recruiter at a small consulting firm said in July 2026 that cancelling online didn't stop renewal: "ZipRecruiter charged us for a second month."
  • Trials that are hard to exit. Another employer described a free trial as "hard to cancel and seek a refund."

Not every report is negative. One employer praised a support rep who walked them through cancelling: "She clearly explained each step."

Most of the complaints trace back to the official terms: automatic renewal, cancelling by phone, and no prorated refunds. Knowing those up front avoids most surprises.

Is ZipRecruiter worth it for your business?

ZipRecruiter makes the most sense if you hire steadily and want one predictable monthly bill. It's harder to justify if you hire a few times a year, need someone this week, or care more about applicant quality than volume. If that sounds like you, these ZipRecruiter alternatives are worth a look.

Steady hiring doesn't guarantee the math works, though. One practice owner we spoke with adds clinicians every time his schedules fill. His hiring never really stops, but paying Indeed and ZipRecruiter directly for each opening kept adding up.

Volume isn't always the gap either. A recruiter filling experienced attorney roles told us Indeed and ZipRecruiter brought him very few qualified candidates. He didn't need more reach. He needed the right people to see the job.

Before you sign up, ask ZipRecruiter for a written quote that covers:

  1. The plan and the exact monthly price
  2. How many job slots are included, and what an extra slot costs
  3. Whether the same role in separate locations uses separate slots
  4. Monthly versus annual terms, and any annual discount
  5. How to cancel, and any notice period
  6. The cost of add-ons like TrafficBoost or resume database access

Then judge it on more than applicant count. Fifty applicants you can't use cost you more time than five you'd actually interview. Ask how you'll screen people, whether you'll see every resume, and how quickly you'll know if a job is working.

You also don't have to choose between one board and nothing. With AvaHR, your jobs go out to free boards like Indeed, and you can add ZipRecruiter as a paid board only for a hard-to-fill role. Every applicant lands in one place, with screening questions that filter out people who don't meet your requirements.

A job board hands you resumes; AvaHR helps you hire.
